Optimizing vision and sound when a camera bell rings: tips for installers

A camera bell is only really effective when both image and sound function optimally. For installers with experience in intercom systems, it is crucial not only to focus on ease of installation, but also on the end customer's user experience.

1 | The correct height and position of the outpost

The placement of the camera largely determines the quality of the image:

Recommended height

150—160 cm from the ground to the center of the camera. This way, you can easily catch the face of most visitors, even in backlighting.

Avoid direct sun

To prevent lens flare, do not place the outpost in bright sunlight or opposite reflective surfaces.

Check obstacles

Plants, poles or gates must not obstruct the view.

Tip

For Fasttel models such as the Wizard Prestige or Entry, a wide viewing angle makes it easier to capture visitors in full view.

2 | Optimize viewing angle

Even with a wide-angle camera, orientation remains important:

  • Mount the outdoor station directly opposite the usual visitor path.
  • For homes with multiple entrances, tilting may be necessary for optimal visibility.
  • With multiple units or indoor stations, check that the image quality is good from all locations.
Tip

A quick test with a smartphone or indoor station before final mounting prevents surprises for the customer.

3 | Sound quality in every situation

The microphone and speaker of a camera bell are just as important as the image:

Placement

Avoid locations with a lot of wind or directly along noisy environments (e.g. street sides).

Check echo and feedback

Some systems have built-in noise cancellation; test this during installation.

Connection with indoor station or app

Make sure the connection is stable for real-time communication without delays or glitches.

Tip

Fasttel intercoms offer clear configuration options for microphone sensitivity and speaker volume, allowing you to fine-tune them perfectly.

4 | Extra features for optimal ease of use

In addition to basic image and sound, there are smart features that increase customer satisfaction:

  • Smartphone notifications
Instantly see who is ringing, even when the resident is away.
  • Recording of missed calls
Useful for package deliveries or unexpected visitors.
  • Advanced features
QR code access, facial recognition, or integration with home automation systems.
Tip

Demonstrate these features to the customer during handover. It increases their sense of security and comfort.

Optimal picture and sound is essential

A professionally placed bell with a camera not only offers safety, but also an excellent user experience. For installers, this means: attention to height, viewing angle and sound quality, supplemented with smart functionalities.

With Fasttel intercoms such as Wizard Prestige and Entry, it's easy to deliver every project technically and visually perfect.
